Public secondary schools in Borno State to reopen two years after closure due to Boko Haram insurgency

Public secondary schools will be reopened on Monday, September 26th, two years after they were closed due to Boko Haram insurgency.

The public schools were shut in March, 2014, after suspected terrorists attacked a school in neighbouring Yobe. The government reopened the primary schools in 2015 but could not do so with the secondary schools because they had been taken over by IDPs
The state Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Inuwa Kubo, who disclosed this yesterday in Maiduguri, said that Internally Displayed Persons (IDPs) occupying the schools had been relocated to allow for resumption of academic activities.
He added that all the structures in the schools had been repaired to provide conducive environment for teaching and learning.
"I wish to announce that on Sept. 26, all public schools are going to be re-opened. I want to state that government has repaired all the structures damaged by the IDPs in the schools, to ensure comfort for the returning students. Parents and guardians should please make sure that they send their children back to school," he said.
The Commissioner described as unfortunate, the actions of  proprietors of private schools who took undue advantage of the development to hike their school fees.
"We understand that some of them have taken undue advantage of the closure of public schools to hike school fees; we will not allow the situation to continue. We are going to visit the schools to find out how much they are charging and how much they are paying their teachers."

Only 30percent of yoruba movies are scripted - popular yoruba actor Dele Odule

Seasoned Yoruba movie actor, Dele Odule, has revealed that over 70 per cent of films produced in Yoruba language are not written.
Odule stated this during the week when he was hosted by the Ibadan Film Circle.
Nollywood movies in general have always been fairly criticised for poor scripting.
Odule noted that, Yoruba films are carryovers from old theatre practice from which many of the practitioners evolved.
He said, “It is true that many Yoruba films are not scripted. They are 30 per cent scripted and 70 per cent improvised.
“It boils down to the way theatre practice started and those who started it before the emergence of theatre scholars who now combine the raw talent with the theory of theatre.”

Federal Government explains intense efforts to release kidnapped Chibok girls

The Federal Government through the Information and Culture Minister Lai Mohammed, explained their intense efforts to release the Chibok girls kidnapped by Boko Haram at a press conference in Abuja Friday. Mohammed said the Federal Government is still working on the release of the girls and appealed to the parents of the Chibok girls and Nigerians to believe in the government's ability to secure the release of the girls. He said:
“Precisely on July 17, 2015, the DSS opened the negotiation process with the group holding the Chibok girls. However, in return for the release of some of these girls, the group also made some demands. “These included the release of some of their fighters arrested, including some involved in major terrorist actions, resulting in several fatalities, and others who were experts in manufacture of locally assembled explosives.
“This was difficult to accept, but appropriate security agencies had to again inform Mr. President of these demands, and its viewed implications. Again, Mr. President gave his assent, believing that the overall release of these girls remains paramount and sacrosanct.
“Meanwhile, following the above development, government and the security agencies had sufficient leverage to work out the modalities of the swap.
“These included creating the safe haven, or necessary place of swap and working out the logistic details. Based on this, the DSS availed other critical sister agencies of this new situation. “Immediately, the Nigerian Army and the Air Force sent some specialists to commence a detailed arrangement for the swap. This was during the last week of July 2015 and 1st week of August 2015.
“The officers representing the various agencies worked out the logistic details, such as the number of persons to be swapped i.e. number of girls and detainees to be exchanged, the vehicles and aircraft, as well as safeguards, i.e. safety of the persons, including the location of the swap.
“When it was finally agreed by all parties, Mr. President was again informed that the preparations were concluded, and the first step for the swap would commence on August 1, 2015. Mr. President robustly gave his approval.
“On August 4, 2015, the persons who were to be part of the swap arrangements and all others involved in the operation were transported to Maiduguri, Borno State. This team, with the lead facilitator, continued the contact with the group holding the Chibok girls.
“The service was able to further prove to the group its sincerity, as it established communication contact between it and its detained members. All things were in place for the swap which was mutually agreed. Expectations were high.
“Unfortunately, after more than two weeks of negotiation and bargains, the group, just at the dying moments, issued new set of demands, never bargained for or discussed by the group before the movement to Maiduguri. All this while, the security agencies waited patiently. This development stalled what would have been the first release process of the Chibok girls.
“It may be important to note that in spite of this setback, the government and the security agencies have not relented in the bid to ensure that the Chibok girls are released safely.
“By the month of November, precisely November 13, 2015, another fresh negotiation process with the group was initiated. This time, there was the need to discuss a fresh component in other to avoid issues that had stalled the former arrangement.
“There were, however, some problems that many may not discern, but should be expected in this kind of situation.
“Some critical persons within the group, who played such vital role in August, 2015, were discovered to be dead during combat action or as a result of the emerging rift amongst members of the group then. These two factors delayed the process. In spite of these, negotiation continued on new modalities.
“By November 30, 2015, it was becoming glaring that the division amongst the group was more profound. This affected the swap process.
“By December 10, 2015, another negotiation process was in place, but this failed to achieve results because of the varying demands by the group.”

Obama to meet with iraq and Nigeria leaders

US President Barack Obama has scheduled meetings with the leaders of Iraq, Nigeria and Colombia and plans to promote trade between the U.S. and Africa as he continues his efforts to defeat the Islamic State group, the white house said Friday. Obama plans to sit down Monday with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to discuss progress the country has made countering the Islamic State group, a coming Iraqi military operation to take back the city of Mosul from IS militants, and a brewing humanitarian crisis inside Iraq, said Ben Rhodes, Obama's deputy national security adviser.
Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken said this week while visiting Baghdad that Iraqi forces aided by the U.S.-led coalition against IS had retaken half the territory that militants once held in the country. He also announced more than $181 million in aid to address a humanitarian crisis that has festered in Iraq as a result of the insurgency. Despite a series of major defeats in recent months, IS has maintained its grip on Mosul, Iraq's second largest city.

Meanwhile, North Korea continues to defy the international community with its recent nuclear and ballistic missile tests.

Obama also plans to meet Tuesday with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, to talk about continued U.S. support for security and economic changes in the country, as well the government's efforts to counter the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram. At a summit on refugees that the president is hosting, Obama is expected to press more nations to open their borders and help double the number of refugees who are resettled around the world.

Obama will devote a portion of Wednesday, the final day of the General Assembly session, to promoting trade between the U.S. and Africa.

NDLEA nabs SA based Nigerian man in possession of drugs worth N31m at Lagos Airport

A 45-year-old Nigerian based in Pretoria, South Africa, Abiodun Israel Banjo has been arrested by officials of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA for possessing parcels of drugs at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos.

According to a statement issued on Monday, Sept. 12th by NDLEA spokesman, Mitchell Ofoyeju, the arrest took place during the outward screening of passengers on a South African Airline flight to South Africa.
The parcels of drugs tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed 3.435kgs with an estimated street value of N31 million in Nigeria

Describing how the drugs were discovered, NDLEA Commander, Ahmadu Garba explained that during a routine luggage check, NDLEA agents noticed that Mr. Banjo's two bags contained methamphetamine concealed under clothing and food items.

However, the suspect, a graduate of the Technical College of Ijebu-Ode from Osun State, denied knowledge of the drug in his bag, claiming that a friend gave him the bag in South Africa.

"I work in Pretoria. My friend in South Africa called me saying that his brother would give me two bags containing foodstuff to take to him. He also promised to give me two thousand dollars. I opened the bags and checked thoroughly, but could not find anything criminal. That was how I accepted to take the bags," Mr. Banjo explained.

"I was surprised when the drug was detected under the bags. I feel very sad that my friend has implicated me."

NDLEA Chief Executive Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah called on members of the public to be aware of tricks employed by drug trafficking cartels.

"Drug traffickers recruit mules by enticing them with money. They are very clever in concealing drugs, as drugs have been detected in bags, electronics, foodstuff and clothes among others. We strongly advise that all passengers should endeavor to pack their bags themselves and avoid taking bags for others,"

The NDLEA boss added that ignorance was no excuse in drug trafficking and the suspect would be charged for unlawful exportation of narcotics.

"A person shall be deemed to have exported a narcotic drug or psychotropic substance under this NDLEA Act; if he brings to or deposits the narcotic drug or psychotropic substance concerned at any time at any customs area such as airports, customs port or any other customs point generally," Mr. Abdallah explained.

Edo Election - APC foresaw defeat and called for postponement

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the Plateau and former member of the National Assembly, Hon George Daika, has described the postponement of the Edo State gubernatorial elections earlier slated for this Saturday under the guise of security challenge as a clear sign that the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) is jittery having foreseen defeat ahead of it in the elections.
He said the postponement was to give the APC another chance to perfect its plans to rig the polls, but warned that Nigerians are watching and would not accept any manipulation from a government that has woefully failed Nigerians since it assumed office.
Addressing journalists in Jos on Friday, he described the advice by the Police and the DSS for the postponement, the initial refusal by the INEC to accept the postponement, the insistence by Adams Oshiomhole and the eventual consent by the INEC as orchestrations of the APC to make people believe that there’s any truth in them, adding that Nigerians are wiser than that.
“As at Thursday afternoon, INEC was in a meeting with the security agencies, and after the meeting the commission insisted that the election would go ahead. And later the same day, INEC turned round to say it was postponed; who is fooling who?”, Daika queried.

Recession is a long race to run - CBN tells Nigerians

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has stated that the economic recession currently facing the country is not a 100 metre race but a marathon, hence Nigerians should brace up to the challenge.
This was disclosed yesterday in Enugu by the acting Director of Corporate Communications of the apex bank, Mr. Isaac Okorafor, while speaking at the ongoing CBN Fair in Enugu.
He declared that Nigerians must do this by patronising made-in Nigeria goods, instead of spending hard currencies in importing items like toothpick from China or chickens from South Africa.
Okorafor, who blamed the elites for the problems, pointed out that “farmers eat what they produced”.
His words, “We should stop importing chicken when we have them here. Nigeria should brace up. This is not 100 metre marathon. Let us brace up and change our ways.
“The most hit now are people who have refused to realise that we ought to eat what we produce, like the elite. Farmers eat what they produce.”

Amber rose shared her first threesome experience

With the young lady persona she anticipates, one would think Amber Rose has seen and done everything at 32 however that is not really. She uncovered she just as of late had her first threesome out of pressure to try something new and she doesn’t feel good about it.
‘We kinda just got together it was a guy and a girl and it was f**king horrible,’ Amber said. ‘It was the worst. It was horrible. I am literally having sleepless nights,’ she said regarding the experience.
‘I felt the pressure, getting older, to experience new things and I did it against my better judgment because I talk about S3x a lot,’ she said.
‘I promote that and I was like I need to have more experiences and so I did it.’
However, the plan backfired: ‘And I hated it. Because I feel like I am a very passionate lover and I like that one-on-one passion.’
‘With the threesome I felt like there was no passion. there was no kissing and rolling around.
‘All those moments were not there.’
She then joked about ex Wiz Khalifa: ‘You know maybe I will call my baby daddy tonight.’
She finished up the theme by saying: ‘I won’t do it again. Possibly in the event that it’s two folks however not with another young lady.’

Too Much S*X Can Give You A Heart Attack!

A new study has some unpleasant news for ageing men: Having lots of enjoyable s*x may put them at a greater risk for heart complications.
The study, published in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior, looked at 2,204 people between the ages 57 to 85. The people were interviewed again five years later, in an effort to understand how s*x impacts people’s health later in life.
The report authors found that men who reported having at least weekly s*x were more likely to report experiencing heart problems when they were interviewed again a few years later, compared to men who were not sexually active.
“Older men who found s*x with their partner extremely pleasurable or satisfying had higher risk of cardiovascular events than men who did not feel so,” said study author Hui Liu, an associate professor of sociology at Michigan State University in a statement.
Women, however, did not experience any increase in heart health problems with more sexual activity. In fact, women who reported feeling highly satisfied with their s*x life had a lower risk of high blood pressure years later, compared to women who didn’t hold the same level of satisfaction.
The study had found a link between heart problems and s*x, but it’s not definitive. More studies are needed to gain a clearer understanding of the benefits and risks of s*x later in life, and whether the amount of sexual activity matters as people age.
Liu recommends men have conversations with their physicians about their health and sexuality.
Why might men have a higher risk for heart issues? While s*x is shown to have health benefits, including better heart health, overdoing it late in life could be problematic, the study authors suggest.
Overall, older men tend to have more sexual complications compared to younger men, and Liu argues that the exertion to reach orgasm could be causing heart stress.

Federal Government to employ 100,000 graduates

As the prices of foodstuff continue to skyrocket, the Nigerian federal government is set to turn things around. According to Vanguard, over 100,000 graduates are to be employed by the federal government.
These graduates will be assigned to farms in all local government councils across the country, as extension workers to help government actualize its food production drive to increase the availability of food in the country.
Chief Audu Ogbeh, the minister of agriculture and rural development, made this known shortly after he inspected various Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP), improved agronomics practice farms at Sumaka and Taraku in Guma and Gwer local government areas of Benue state.
Mr Auta Appeh, the Senior Adviser to the minister on international donor partners said the initiatives were necessary because government “is doing everything to encourage our youths to take up farming as a business and not as a hobby.”
Dr Ameh Onoja the national programme coordinator of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD-VCDP), said that the organisation had constructed roads, cleared farmlands and provided inputs through its matching grants to farmers to help boost growth in the sector.
Acting chairman of Guma local government, Chief Gbor Igyo, also urged government to urgently provide tractors and other farming implements and inputs to farmers if the food sufficiency campaign of the present administration would become a reality.
Meanwhile, there were reports that a recently commenced recruitment exercise which held simultaneously at the 17 local government areas of Enugu state, as well as the College of Immaculate Conception (CIC), Enugu, witnessed a turn-out of thousands of applicants.
Whereas those whose names were shortlisted had their examination at the designated council areas, the CIC played host to thousands of applicants who had their names missing in the list.
However, signs that all was not well with the exercise started showing early in the morning as the applicants at the CIC waited from 7 am till 4 pm before the process for the test commenced. It was revealed that the recruitment was fraudulent.
