It is disheartening that while many well-meaning Nigerians have stepped in to intervene in the face-off between music superstar Mr David Adeleke, aka Davido, and the mother of his baby Ms Sophia Momodu, my cousin, a senior citizen and film-maker, Dr Ola Balogun, has chosen to cast aspersions on me for reasons best known to both of us. In a well-circulated comment he made in newspapers and on social media, Wednesday January 6, 2016, Dr Balogun maliciously attacked Sophia and I without caring to find out what led to the present debacle.
I had the highest regards for Dr Balogun and had always responded to his calls and text messages to my London line most times. I wish to apologise to him publicly if I have not been able to attend to his certain demands but it is regrettable that he would retaliate through this vengeful manner. Though I bear the same title of Bashorun with my late mentor Chief Moshood Abiola, I'm just an ordinary journalist of very modest means. Let me assure Dr Balogun that elders like him have brokered peace between the families and by the grace of God we should have good news sooner than later.
Dr Balogun should please bury whatever animosity he has against me and join others in reconciling the families instead of pouring petrol into the conflagration...

AWKWARD THOUGHT

In the silence of the night, his mother called his name and he stirred surprise and disturbed. It was as if he was lost in the thought of an hundred years.
The thought of his dad living for the war brought tears down his cheek. All his dad ever said about Jesus, and that he should not for once stop believing that their is a God up there . sometimes the sense of someone saying something bad about Jesus makes him want to do something crazy.
He suddenly became obsessed of harming anyone regardless of who they are, thinking it would be better for them not to exist. He became so contended of wanting to cut off their existence not wanting to know the consequence.
The thought of his mother in the cave of his loneliness brought rage from the inner most part of him. At work his attitude changed towards everyone.
He had finally became something. Somethings only thought could ever give birth to. Perhaps with this he felt as if he was the only one been connected to Jesus. He took every offense defined at last, isolated by all things he could do, an irreducible denominator.
Just before the night ran out, his mind ebbed like wanning tide, exposing thought of murder that will soon be committed to the customer he was attending to. Just as the customer went out, he quickly took an excuse and followed the man outside.
There was no sound anywhere and he quickly realized it was the silence rousing from his thought. There should be a thousand soul walking,some dainty feets hurrying home but instead nothing. His mind held his breathe.
As he got close to the man he quickly brought out a knife and stabbed him. He paused stirred at the set of his knife edge, he had just committed murder. His ear tried to sift the silence, he listen, one hand rubbing absently on his deerhide shirt.
His mother called out his name again, his eyes opened, he was scarcely breathing in the unnatural silence.
It was just an awkward thought!!!

“THE EXTORTION IS JUST TOO MUCH” – DESPOLY STUDENTS CRY OUT

Graduating students of the Delta state polytechnic, located at Otefe-Oghara, Ethiope-West local government, are in distress grieving over the compulsory payment of Convocation Levy and exorbitant result collection fees foisted on them by the Polytechnic administration. It was gathered that the Polytechnic administration had recently (few months back prior to the sales of entry forms) introduced a mandatory policy, wherein all graduating students are to pay for result collection and convocation gowns.
Just graduated students of the polytechnic who spoke to our reporters in separate interviews and chats described this development as arbitrary. One of the students described the policy as inhuman, noting that, “ it is so sad that an educational institution being headed by a mother could actually make education so difficult for the students from the poor and middle class homes. When we thought we had graduated and there will be no more worries of how to pay school fees and pay for rent and all that; then The Polytechnic administration comes up with another brilliant extortion scheme. It is more or less like we have not graduated because when you sum up all of these fees it is equivalent to a session’s school fees”.
Our pressmen gathered that the graduated HND students were asked to pay ten thousand naira(#10,000) for the collection of their certificate, four thousand five hundred naira(#4500) for hiring of convocation gown, two thousand naira(#2000) for transcript, and another seven thousand naira for collection of N.D certificate (that is if you graduated from the Delta Polytechnic, Oghara). You can do the Mathematics yourself. That is equal to #23500. Failure to pay that cash means you cannot do your clearance and proceed to collect the Statement of Result. When you add up the other pre-NYSC bills then you will realize that it’s almost like you have not graduated; schooling continues.
Then for the N.D graduates that bill is #11,500 (that is for ND certificates and hiring of matriculation gowns).
Also speaking, another graduating student totally condemns this ‘extortion scheme’ initiated by the Polytechnic and coined it ‘Pure Wickedness’. “As I speak to you”, she says, “I am helpless because my parents don’t have that kind of money. It is wrong for any institution to place such exorbitant amount of money for result clearance and collection considering the economic state of our nation”.
Another students who our reporters chatted with called on the commissioner of higher education and other stakeholders in the educational sector to call the Polytechnic administration to order. “We are begging the commissioner to urgently intervene because they are turning this Polytechnic into their personal business centers or better still ‘market place’. Some of our parents are leaving on #18,000 minimum wage, now they keep bringing one means or another to extort us; from the departments to the schools to even non academic staff. The extortion is just too much”, he laments.
