FAYOSE: THE DONALD TRUMP OF NIGERIA

GovernorAyodele Fayose of Ekiti state is undoubtedly one of the most controversial and outspoken politicians in Nigeria. Almost every day he amazes or even shocks Nigerians by his statements and surprising actions.

Some people commend the governor as he is not afraid to speak his mind and raise his voice against any issue. However, there are those who think that Fayose’s frequent insults and vituperations against President Muhammadu Buhari  have crossed the boundary of free speech. Meanwhile, the governor, who often comes under attacks following his  statements, has finally explained why he criticizes the president. “My criticizing Buhari is to help the people have dividends of democracy‎. If nobody is talking because they are afraid, you will have a dictator in every leader‎. It is to keep people on their toes for the love of everybody‎,” he said.

On the other  hand, turning our focus to the other side of the globe, we can always rely on Donald Trump for providing us with the most ridiculous and outrageous quotes. So it’s no surprise that since announcing his candidacy for President of USA, we’ve been exposed to even more ridiculousness from the businessman and TV personality.

A look at this mirror shows us that these two politicians have some similarities.
Both are always ready to say ‘the truth’, or what they consider to be the truth, or what they suspect the mass considers the truth with reckless abandon—exaggerating, obfuscating, contradicting themselves along the way, but always speaking the truth.
Trump isn’t lying when he speaks of the collapse of America’s immigration, and he isn’t lying when he speaks of the fear it sparks in the minds of a large swath of the American population. He isn’t lying about the fear of China beating America, he isn’t lying about the fact that America wasn’t particularly safe under George W. Bush and he really isn’t lying when he says America isn’t winning at much anymore.
Our Fayose isn’t lying when he says Nigeria’s electricity and energy situation is now worse, he isn’t lying when he notices a pattern of parochialism in presidential appointments, he isn’t lying when he notices traces of military-style authoritarianism, and he isn’t lying when he notices a tenuous grip on the economy. Some say the problem, is how they speak these truths.

SURULEREWATCH has gathered 10 extracts from the most controversial politician Nigeria has seen.
1.     On the rerun elections in Rivers
“Power doesn’t come from anywhere. God rules in the affairs of men. Oppressing, bringing and cutting people down, taking their blood, God is angry. The way this government is taking people down, God is angry. God isn’t happy. “Go to Rivers, they kill people. Go to Akwa Ibom, they kill people. Go to Bayelsa, they kill people, incarcerate innocent people. God is angry with Buhari. You can’t continue to take the blood of the innocent.”
2. Plan to Islamize Nigeria

“They have started subtle moves to make Nigeria an Islamic nation, but God will stop them. This was done in 1984, it failed, it would fail again.” “Why did five of them go to Saudi Arabia to wait for our man there (referring to President Buhari and state governors), if they don’t have agenda. The agenda is coming small small, but we will resist it. Nigeria is a free nation where we proclaim the name of Jesus Christ freely, and we believe in Allah for those who are Muslims. This nation will not be taken for an Islamic nation.”

3. On the president’s foreign trips

“Travelling from one country to another won’t solve any of our problems because I have not seen where foreigners assist any nation to develop. “The president should know that Nigerians are suffering and they do not need their president to junket around the world, to alleviate their sufferings.”

4. On the 2016 budget

“I warned Nigerians of the consequences of electing an octogenarian as president and with the international embarrassment that this budget crisis has become, I have been vindicated. It is obvious that there is total disconnection between the President and his cabinet members as many of the ministers don’t even have access to him probably because the president spend most of his time resting as a result of his old age.”

“The reality is that the president is challenged by age, exposure and ability. He did not read the budget proposal that he presented to the National Assembly and this should be a lesson for those who clamoured for a Buhari’s presidency that no man can give what he does not have.”

5. On Buhari’s campaign promises

“Everything Buhari and his party promised Nigerians when they were looking for votes, they have denied and it won’t be a surprise if one day, Buhari comes out to even deny that he was elected on the platform of APC.” “Nigerians have now realised that they are inside a ‘One Chance Bus’ because Buhari and his APC have disowned their entire campaign promises by disowning their campaign document titled; ‘My Covenant with Nigerians’.”

 6. On 2019 presidential election

“Those promoting Buhari for 2019 should stop. I have told Nigerians that Buhari does not have the capacity now to govern Nigeria. What capacity will he display in seven years time?  Currently as it stands, the president is challenged by age.”

7. On Buhari’s anti-corruption crusaide

“I support the fight against corruption but it has to be total. Buhari must be bold enough to probe how ex-presidents Obasanjo, Babangida and others spent their security votes. All the presidents that had come in Nigeria spent their security votes in the same pattern. So, Buhari must open the book and come out with facts.”

8. On Fulani-Agatu War & Buhari’s silence

“It is worrisome that the Fulani herdsmen that killed over 400 Agatus in Benue state, raped women and destroyed farmlands in the North Central, South West and South South zones of Nigeria are walking the streets free while Igbo people, who opted to defend their sources of livelihood are languishing in detention. “Are they saying that those Igbo villagers do not have rights to defend their farmlands from further destruction by the Fulani herdsmen when the president who should defend them is keeping silent?”

9. On invasion of Ekiti state House of Assembly

“If Buhari likes, let him relocate all DSS men in Nigeria with the entire ammunition in their armoury to Ekiti, the will of Ekiti people can never be broken. They will only try, and like they have always done, they will fail because dictatorship has never triumphed over the people. Even Buhari’s dictatorship between 1984 and 1985 ended one day and Nigerians will also outlive his present dictatorship.”

10. On Chibok girls

“The cries over missing girls were just a political strategy. What could Boko Haram have used to carry those girls? However, if truly missing, they should be recovered. One thing I know is that what is not missing you cannot get.”
