THE ALLEGED KIDNAPPED ESE ORURU FINALLY SPEAKS

According to Premium Times, Ese Oruru, who was allegedly kidnapped from Bayelsa State to Kano, said she was not interested in reuniting with her family and denied reports that she was abducted from her home in Bayelsa State.

In an exclusive audio recording obtained by the online publication today, the girl also said she eloped with her lover to Kano in order to convert to Islam.

“My name is Aisha Chuwas. I am 17-year-old. I came here to be a Muslim and I will stay here.”

Human rights lawyer, Huwaila Mohammed, who was given access to the girl at the Zonal Police Headquarters in Kano, said upon interrogation, she understood the girl was never forced to convert to Islam. She also had access to Miss Oruru’s lover and established that he is just 18 years old, ‘not anywhere above 20’.

“I was surprised when I saw a very small boy. He is just 18-year old. I was enraged thinking that it was an old man involved in the saga. From the way I see it, they eloped not because of religion but love,” she said.

#FreeEse: Mama Taraba vows to rescue Ese, prosecutes abductor

The Minister of women Affairs and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the April 11 governorship election in Taraba State, Senator Aisha Jummai Alhassan, popularly known as Mama Taraba, has condemned the alleged abduction of 14-year-old Ese Oruru by one Yunusa, who hails from Kano. She vowed to ensure the release of Ese and prosecution of the abductor.

She maintained that Ese is a minor and as such cannot consent to marriage, stressing that ‘Child Rights Act says no person under 18 is capable of contracting a valid marriage, and a marriage so contracted is null and void’.

The former senator added that the Act prescribed a fine of N500,000 or 5 years imprisonment or both for anyone who violated it by marrying a minor.
“No culture, religion or personal conviction supersedes the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Ese Oruru must return home,” she vowed

She disclosed this via her Twitter handle, @JummaiAlhassan.

“The case of Ese Oruru was brought to my attention yesterday and I have been looking into it since”.
“Our laws are very clear on the case, Ese Oruru is 14 and as such cannot consent to marriage. Any such union she’s in is illegal”.

“I have been in touch with the police authorities in Kano over Ese’s immediate release to her parents and we are making progess”.
“I can assure you that I will use all my powers and influence as a Minister and woman to secure the release and return of Ese Oruru”.

“Ese is still a child under our laws, and her right to freedom of movement is subject to parental control. She must be returned”.
“Child Rights Act says no person under 18 is capable of contracting a valid marriage, and a marriage so contracted is null and void”.

“The Act also clearly states that anyone who marries a child is liable to to a fine of N500,000 or 5 years imprisonment or both”.
“No culture, religion or personal conviction supersedes the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Ese Oruru must return home”.

“My ministry is on this case and we will ensure full prosecution of anyone who is found to have contravened the law”.
“Ese’s case has brought to the fore the need to protect the rights of children and women in our society and we wont relent”.

Vanguard gathered that Ese, who was 13 as at the time of her alleged abduction, was taken to Kano, by Yunusa, where he converted her to Islam and married her.

Ese’s parents had since last August made trips to Kano, where they unraveled the plights of their daughter. The parents said they have involved the police, but efforts to get the Emir of Kano, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, at whose palace the girl is believed to be held to resolve the matter and ensure the return of the 14-year-old to them have proved futile.

While her mother was told that Ese had converted to Islam and, therefore, was no longer her daughter, her father was told that his daughter was an 18-year-old adult and not 14, hence she was capable of making decisions for herself.

You Lied In Church That Jonathan Built No Road – Doyin Okupe Blasts Osinbajo

Former Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Doyin Okupe, on Sunday, described the recent statement credited to vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, that no new road has been built by government in the last ten years as “a lie and an absolute falsehood.”

While expressing regrets that the statement was made in a church, Okupe, who stated this on his Facebook page, said that the church has a role to play in politics and that Osinbajo was wrong in assertion.

The former Presidential aide wrote that: “This is perhaps one of the most difficult posts I have made to date.”

“Prof Yemi Osinbajo and I have a few things in common. He is a professional in politics like me. He is a practising Christian and a revered Pastor. I am a practising christian and an aspiring Evangelist.”

“We both are alumni of Igbobi college, Yaba. Lagos. His younger brother and mine were classmates at Igbobi and are both pastors of the fountain of life church, Ilupeju, where I became grounded in Christianity under the mentorship of the celebrated and revered man of God, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya.”

“It was in this church and before a body of pastors undergoing a spiritual retreat that the Vice President went and said that the federal government in the last 10 years have not constructed a single new road.”

“This statement is a lie and an absolute falsehood. Many people have said so. But this is not why I am writing this. My concern is the erroneous assumption that just because the VP is a Christian therefore every christian is APC.”

“This why the VP’s statement is unfortunate in that it was a wrong statement made in a wrong place(church) and before a wrong audience.”

“The church must also be sensitive and mindful of the danger in bringing politics into the church. For Prof Osinbajo, if only he remembered the Igbobi college motto ” omnes unum in domino” meaning ” all are one in the Lord, he would not have committed such a blunder.”

“Our God is God of APC, PDP, Labour etc. Having said this the VP is someone I hold in very high esteem and he knows this. I am also proud of his role in this administration.”

Bangladeshi man has tree-like growths removed from his hand after three hours of surgery

26-year-old Abdul Bajandar from southern Bangladesh suffers from epidermodysplasia verruciformis, a condition so rare there are only three known cases in the world. The condition is dubbed 'Tree Man' because sufferers grow bark-like warts on their appendages. He successfully underwent surgery to remove the warts that first started to appear ten years ago from one of his hands.

'I have fought for 10 years and endured the pain,' I want to live like a normal person. I just want to be able to hold my daughter properly and hug her. It would be nice to eat with my own hands as well' Mr Bajandar said before the operation
It took a team of nine doctors at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, to remove the growths from just one of his hands.
Facility director Samanta Lal Sen said:
'It was a successful operation. We removed warts from all five fingers of his right hand. He's now happy and was laughing,'
'We'll now review his condition for the next three weeks before deciding whether to conduct more operations. It's a big challenge.'

Bajandar's condition made him a celebrity of sorts with people travelling from all over to see the 'Tree Man' and many more visiting him in hospital.

He was given the all-clear for surgery after tests confirmed the warts were not cancerous.

The Bangladesh government agreed to bear the costs of his treatment and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was given an update on his condition, Sen said.
Bajandar's wife Halima Khatun saw her husband after the operation and said he looked 'relaxed and happy'.
Mr Bajandar said he initially thought that the warts were harmless but slowly as the growths covered his hands and feet, he was forced to quit working as a bicycle rickshaw puller.

With $30 oil price, we have to proritize and downsize our promises- Lai Mohammed

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, says with oil prices sliding to as low as $30 per barrel, the APC-led government will have to downsize or prioritize on the promises it made during the election campaigns. Lai said this to Channels TV

"When you campaign, you say you’ll do A, B, C, but when you win elections, you’ll priotize. We were elected for a four-year period, not for one year. Things, we hope, will not be bad all through these four years.
We are still faithful to those promises, but as you have rightly said, when we were campaigning, the price of crude was $100 a barrel. Today, its $30 a barrel, so definitely, we would have to downsize some of the things we intended to do, or prioritize them but this does not mean abandoning those promises”he said

Gov. Dickson's sister rescued by security agencies without ransom

The younger sister of Bayelsa State governor, Henry Seriake Dickson has been rescued after spending over two months in the hands of kidnappers. A statement issued on Monday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said 26 year old Nancy Dickson, was rescued on Sunday evening from her abductors without any payment of ransom.

According to him,
"some of the kidnappers took to their heels while others were apprehended following a tip off on their hideouts."
While calling on the people of the state not to succumb to the demands of ransom made by kidnappers, Governor Dickson assured that plans were underway to amend the Bayelsa State Secret Cult, Kidnapping and other Related Offences Prohibition Bill 2012 to proscribe payment of ransom in the state.

He stressed that the Bill when passed into law, would go a long way in putting a stop to the incidence of kidnapping in the state. Dickson urged Bayelsans to take a cue from his personal experience with kidnappers when his aged mother was abducted in 2009 and efforts were made to secure her release without payment of ransom.

As part of efforts to stem criminal activities in the state, Governor Dickson said "a comprehensive security strategy would be launched soon to boost government,s policy of zero tolerance on crime and criminality."

He therefore advised anyone or group of persons who indulge in the unwholesome practice to turn a new leaf as the full weight of the law would be brought to bear on any culprit.

OAU Students Express Concern About Increased Sickness On Campus

The institution’s largest student hostel, Awolowo Hall, showed that many of the rooms had at least one student who had fallen ill. One of the rooms, which has 8 occupants, had five of them already fall ill this past week.

An average of five students stay in a room in the hostel officially although the figure is often up to a dozen due to the shortage of student accommodation.

The increased cases of illness has been attributed to the ‘harsh’ weather conditions while some students have attributed it to poor sanitary conditions of the hostels.

Some students also alleged that they were given expired drugs at the institutions health centre when they visited after they fell ill.

One of the students who just recovered from his illness, Adebayo Benjamin, said, “I was feeling dizzy, vomited , had high temperature and headache , I have not felt this way before.”

Another student, Abiodun of Management and Accounting department, said his illness prevented him from preparing for the university’s examination which begins early March.

A visit to the health centre of the institution also showed that an average of three doctors attended to the scores of students who thronged the hospital.

Some of the symptoms complained of by students include high temperature, vomiting, dizziness, stomach ache and headache.

One of the doctors on duty attributed the increased illness to the harsh weather and lack of rest by students. Other health workers, who confirmed the increase in number of students appearing at the centre, however. said the situations in the hostel may have made the conditions worse. The hospital’s Chief Medical Director was not on seat and could not be reached on phone.

Already, the university’s Association of Campus Journalists, ACJ, has blamed the hostel conditions for the illness.

“The drainages at the back of our hostels have not been cleaned for about one month thereby breeding mosquitoes that have spread the strange virus,” Omole Isaac, the ACJ spokesperson said in a statement. “Our advise to students is to keep their rooms clean as we have not witnessed this kind of development before.”

Some of the students, however, blamed their colleagues for the poor sanitary conditions of the hostels.

“The way hostel facilities are used by students can be annoying, little precautions need be taken although this strange fever is not controllable,” a student, Samuel Olatunde, said.

Another student, Awe Peter, asked the university management to ensure proper cleaning of the hostels.

The spokesperson of the university, Olanrewaju Abiodun, however allayed the students fears.

“There is no strange fever in Obafemi Awolowo University,” he told PREMIUM TIMES. “Most of these allegations are unfounded. In fact I have visited hostels and I saw students watching football. Are these the sick students? We have over thirty five thousand students in Obafemi Awolowo university and if some microscopic few are sick then why such panic.”

Mr. Abiodun hinted that some of the students might be stressed due to preparations for upcoming examination in the school.

“The Chief Medical Director has even said there is no strange virus in Obafemi Awolowo University. We are having normal examination tension, so all is well,” he said.

The University Joint Christian Mission, UJCM, has fixed Monday for special prayers against the “strange” fever.

No more home based coaches for Nigeria' as NFF plans to sue Sunday Oliseh

Nigerian Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick has vowed not to employ a foreign coach to take charge of the Super Eagles again after Sunday Oliseh's handling of the job and resignation on social media while he was away at Zurich for FIFA's elections.

Amaju, who christened Sunday Oliseh 'Africa's Pep Guardiola' upon his appointment last year says the era of giving indigenious coaches a chance to head the Super Eagles is over, saying Samson Siasia will take over the team temporarily while the NFF look for the perfect 'foreign' replacement.

“After this Sunday Oliseh debacle, we have definitely turned the corner. We are now going to start shopping for a well grounded and qualified foreign coach to tinker the Team. Enough is enough. What we have learnt is that there is a world of difference between being a good coach and being a good manager”, he told Hotsports.tv.

While announcing his resignation on Twitter, Oliseh said “Due to contract violations, lack of support, unpaid wages, benefits to my players, assistant coaches and myself, I resign as Super Eagles chief coach. I feel fortunate, blessed and eternally grateful for having had the honour to play, captain and coach this great nation of ours, Nigeria.”

But according to reports the NFF are planning legal action against Oliseh citing he broke contractual obligations after he resigned without giving a month's notice plus in his contract he was told to live in Nigeria and given rent but refused to live here to perform his coaching duties.

Pastor was shot and killed at the altar by his brother who was sitting in congregation

William Schooler, 70 (right), a pastor at St Peter's Missionary Baptist in Dayton, Ohio was shot and killed by his brother while service was in session at the church. The choir was singing when the suspect, 69-year-old Daniel (left), got up, followed the pastor and shot him as he got behind the pulpit. He died at the scene from his injuries.

While the motive for the shooting is not clear, reports say it was related to a domestic incident.

Schooler was a decorated Vietnam veteran who was awarded the Bronze star graduated from Central State University in 1972, the Ohio State University in 1976, and Grace College, Columbia, South Carolina in 2003. He was appointed pastor of the church in 2011.

23, 846 ghost workers removed from government payroll, saves FG N2.293bn

Not less than 23, 846 ghost workers have been removed from the Federal government's payroll, saving the government N2.293 billion from the total salary bill for the ministries, departments and agencies MDAs for February 2016. According to the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, who disclosed this over the weekend, Bank Verification Exercise and enrolment to the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) exposed ghost workers that have hitherto been collecting salaries in various MDAs.

The BVN is a unique number that identifies each bank’s customer for “Know Your Customer” (KYC) purposes. The use of BVNs, rather than physical appearance of workers for biometric capture at the initial stage of verification, has significantly simplified and accelerated the progress of the payroll audit process and reduced the cost of implementation.

Korean statue that depicts Jesus

This photo was shared by an IMGUR user by the username Geekologie. He said:

"This is a Korean crucifix featuring a very muscular Jesus. I'm not entirely sure where it's located, but presumably outside the Church of Gains. Honestly, if Jesus really did look like that there probably never would have been a crucifixion, just "the day Jesus killed all the Romans swinging a cross."

Lagos state launches sexual assault standing order, rape kits

In line with the mandate of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the Primary Health Care Board at the weekend launched the Sexual Assault Standing Order and Sexual Assault Evidence Examination Kit, also referred to as rape kits.
Coordinator of the DSVRT, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi said the launch was done at a training session for Health workers of Primary Health Care Centres.

She listed the five pilot centres to include Ogudu, Ita-elewa in Ikorodu, Ajilete in Ifako-Ijaiye, Palm Avenue in Mushin and Oshodi in Oshodi-Isolo.

She said the selection of the pilot PHC’s was methodically done as statistic reveals that sexual and gender based assault related crimes are most prevalent in these areas. These centres render 24 hours service, laboratory, HIV Counselling and Testing, and Maternal and Child Health Services.

According to her: “the Rape Kits contain the necessary instruments used for evidence gathering and examination some of which include microscope slides, saline water, swabs for collecting fluids from delicate body parts like the lips, cheeks, thighs, private parts.

“The Kit also includes materials for blood samples, comb, paper sheets for evidence collection such as clothing fibres and hairs, nail pick for scraping debris from beneath the nails, gloves. The documentation forms which include the consent form and Patient History/ Sexual Assault History are also in the rape kit.

Mrs. Vivour-Adeniyi said the Lagos State Sexual Assault Standing Order, the first of its kind in Nigeria, was produced to guide the provision of health care services as well as set the minimum acceptable standards for the provision of quality health care to the survivors of sexual assault.

She expressed optimism that The Standing Order will equip healthcare providers with tools to facilitate examination, treatment and management of sexual assault patients.

“The output of this training in terms of knowledge shared with the workers will ultimately facilitate examination and management of patients after sexual assault, and also improve the quality and documentation of evidence collection.

“The protocol response to be adopted is now clearly enumerated, some of which include taking the survivor/patient to a designated area, getting the informed consent of the survivor to have the examination, obtaining the medical history, and then proceeding to collect the different samples necessary for forensic examination and testing.

The Training was organised by the Lagos DSVRT with technical support from United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and FHI 360.

WHATSAPP WILL STOP WORKING ON BLACKBERRY AND NOKIA OPERATING SYSTEM BY 2016

Earlier this week Whatsapp celebrated its 7th years anniversary with its 1 Billion Active users, instead to break a bad news on such a good day, the team decided to wait till on Friday when they announced that: the app will soon be discontinued on BlackBerry and Nokia devices running those company’s operating systems.

Yes! that include the Blackberry 10 device, Though the new Android-powered Blackberry Priv slider phone might probaly survive this heat because it was built with Android OS.

According to WhatApp Announcement

As we look ahead to our next seven years, we want to focus our efforts on the mobile platforms the vast majority of people use. So, by the end of 2016, we will be ending support for WhatsApp Messenger on the following mobile platforms:

1. BlackBerry, including BlackBerry 10
2. Nokia S40
3. Nokia Symbian S60
4. Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
5. Windows Phone 7.1

While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future

The Nokia S40 discontinuation will deeply affect developing countries like Nigeria because most people still uses old Nokia phone. The like of Nokia asha 200 and 203, Nokia 6100, 6200, Nokia c2 and c3 just to mention a few. I know most of us still love our old nokia phones. WhatsApp suggests “upgrading to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone” if you want to keep on using the service — if not, you’ll need to find another messaging service by the end of the year before the service got discontinued.

OAP FREEZE SPEAKS ON OLAJUMOKE RISE TO FAME AND UNILAG FIRST GRADUATE WITH A 5.0 CGPA

Cool FM OAP Freeze just shared this on his IG page and he’s asking why Mr. Ayodele Daniel Dada, the first Nigerian to finish university with a perfect CGPA of 5.0, is not getting the same rise to fame as former bread seller turned model, Olajumoke Orisaguna.

‘POVERTY MENTALITY’

When are Nigerians going to celebrate real achievements?

On the left is Mr. Ayodele Daniel Dada the first Nigerian to finish university with a perfect CGPA of 5.0 and on the left is Mrs. Olajumoke Orisaguna a ‘former’ bread seller.

Before Ayodele, no one had ‘EVER’ finished with a perfect CGPA in UNILAG!!! Since it was established in 1962, he made history by becoming the first to achieve such a commendable feat!

Now, so many questions come to mind. How come my dear friend Kunbi of ‘April with Kunbi’ hasn’t styled him or recommended him for styling? How come CNN hasn’t done a story on him? How come his life isn’t documented on blogs daily? How come he isn’t a brand ambassador for any product?

The questions are ceaseless.

Ciara put up a post of an equally beautiful traffic hawker selling some type of fruit yesterday and she was described, in Ciara’s own words as ‘beautiful and talented’. If these two ‘hawker beauties’ were discovered less than 2 months apart, it means that beautiful girls that hawk commodities aren’t in short supply in Lagos.

While people who finish with with a 5.0 CGPA are almost non existent! It took 54 years to produce the first one!

While Olajumoke and this other lady are rough stones that could be polished to achieve a lustrous shine, Ayodele is a true jewel, a rare yellow diamond in its truest and purest form.

Let’s not let our ‘poverty mentality’, that makes things of lesser importance seem valuable, cloud our judgement. I have no objection to polishing stones to bring out their shine, but please let’s not do it at the expense of gems of inestimable value!

The outcome of our future depends largely on ‘what’ or ‘whom’ we invest in. If Japan, Switzerland or America invested their time and money in pretty bread sellers, we won’t have the brains behind their automotive, aeronautic, horological or financial achievements today.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t celebrate Olajumoke o! Before people call me a hater but like hell we must celebrate Ayodele first! Just my thought on a Saturday evening~FRZ

I WOULD RATHER USE THE N5000 TO EMPOWER AGRICULTURE RATHER THAN GIVE IT TO UNEMPLOYED NIGERIANS- BUHARI SPEAKS CONCERNING THE N5000 THAT THE PARTY PROMISES TO NIGERIAN

While speaking during a meeting in Saudi Arabia, President Buhari said he had a different opinion on the N5000 stipend his party promised to give to unemployed Nigerians when they come into power.

Buhari said he would rather use the N5000 to repair the infrastructures in schools and empower mining and agriculture than to give the money to people who don’t work;

“This largess of N5,000 for the unemployed, I have got a slightly different priority.

I would rather do the infrastructure for the school that request them and empower agriculture, mining so that every able bodied person can go and get work instead of giving N5,000 to those who don’t work.”

WE WOULD BE AT THE TOP IF EVERYONE MATCHES MY STANDARD-RONALDO

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo claimed the Spanish giants would be top of La Liga rather than nine points behind Barcelona if his team-mates matched his standards.

Ronaldo had a day to forget in front of goal as Real waved goodbye to any lasting hope of mounting a title challenge in a 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid on Saturday with even coach Zinedine Zidane admitting their challenge was over.

“If everyone was at my level, we would be top,” said Ronaldo.

“Every year according to the press it seems I am rubbish, but the numbers and statistics don’t lie.”

Madrid have endured a season from hell as Zidane replaced the sacked Rafael Benitez in January, whilst the club has suffered a series of institutional embarrassments, including being eliminated from the Copa del Rey for fielding an ineligible player.

The final whistle was met by a chorus of discontent from the home fans as they called for president Florentino Perez to resign.

A mounting injury list has also taken its toll as they were without Gareth Bale, Marcelo and Pepe, and Karim Benzema had to be replaced by 18-year-old Borja Mayoral at half-time.

And Ronaldo claimed that, despite Perez’s multi-million euro investment, Madrid don’t have a good enough squad to compete at the top level.

“I don’t want to undervalue any of my teammates, but when the best aren’t there it is difficult to win.”

“I like to play with Pepe, Karim, Bale, Marcelo. I don’t want to say that Jese (Rodriguez), Lucas (Vazquez), (Mateo) Kovavic are not good players, they are very good, but to win a competition you need the best.”

– ‘Big blow’ –

Defeat was Zidane’s first in nine games since taking charge last month and he admitted that he had been shocked by his side’s poor display.

“Today is a big blow. To lose at home to Atletico is difficult to take,” said the Frenchman. “I didn’t expect the game we saw today.

“The league is over. It was already difficult and I said yesterday if you drop more points it is even more so.

“We’re not just going to throw the league away because whatever happens we have goals, games to play and things to win. That is the idea we have to have going forward.”

Victory meant Atletico became the first visiting side ever to win three consecutive league games at the Bernabeu and solidified their position in second, four points ahead of Real.

“Today we were Atletico Madrid. There is no better example of what we are than what we showed today,” said coach Diego Simeone.

“Once again the fans of Atletico Madrid can feel immensely proud of their players.”

Simeone’s men trail Barcelona by five points, but the European champions can regain their eight-point advantage when they host Sevilla on Sunday.

“Barcelona are very good, it is difficult to see them losing three games,” added Simeone.

“We have to focus on our own objective which was to finish in the top three, but everyone wants to finish as high as possible.”

Atletico’s title bid has been hampered by a lack of goals in recent games, but Antoine Griezmann ended a five-game drought to slot home his 20th of the season early in the second half.

“I’m happy on a personal level and also for the team,” said Griezmann.

“We played a great game, we very solid at the back and, although we didn’t have many chances, one of them went in.”

NIGERIAN PILOT SET TO BE THE FIRST AFRICAN TO FLY AROUND THE WORLD ALONE

A Nigerian pilot named Ademilola Odujinrin is set to make history as the first African to fly around the world alone. This historical journey will happen in April according to Demilola who said he's put everything in place to ensure a hitch-free journey. He said his solo expedition will begin in Lagos and take him round the 7 continents of the world. It will take 6 weeks to complete and he will end his journey in Lagos sometime in May.

“The project aims to inspire Nigeria’s teeming population to begin to conceive a world without borders with unbridled dreams to transform the Nigerian narrative while shattering all stereotypes. The planned solo expedition will be achieved flying the aircraft, Cirrus SR22. It has a total payload of about 439kg. This particular aircraft with registration number N313CD has been specifically modified for this journey with additional long-range tanks and a HF radio installed for longer stretches of the journey,’’ he said.

Demilola said he's currently undergoing physical and psychological training to prepare him for the challenges of operating a flight without any assistance for six weeks. The operation will cost about a million dollars according to Transcend project, who are supporting the project.

ANOTHER OLAJUMOKE IN THE MAKING!!!! CIARA TOOK A PICTURE OF A LADY HAWKING FRUIT

Ciara landed in Lagos yesterday for Darey’s Love Like A Movie concert. She took a photo of a nigeria lady hawking in traffic which she shared with her 10 million instagram followers.

In the photo is a well dressed woman selling some type of fruit in traffic. People are now asking that the lady should be found and her life turned around like what happened with TY Bello and the bread seller.

Anyone knows the lady?

IGBO GROUP BEGS FG NOT TO KILL REV. KING

Ndigbo Cultural Society of Nigeria (NCSN) has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria not to make haste in carrying out the death sentence passed on Rev. Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, the General Overseer of Christian Praying Assembly, by the Supreme Court on Friday.

Leader of the group, Chief Udo Udeogaranya, made the appeal after the Supreme Court threw out Rev King’s appeal against the death sentence passed on him in 2007 by a Lagos High Court presided over by Justice Joseph Oyewole.

According to Udeogaranya, the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government should “commute the sentence and grant him pardon as Nigeria stands to gain nothing by shedding blood.

“This plea is premised on the ground that many Nigerians still hold Rev. Ezeugo as their spiritual leader even in various prisons and that the initial trial in Lagos as purportedly put forward by his lawyer Mr. Olalekan Ojo and published by national dailies was a miscarriage of justice in which the lawyer made certain points that demanded a second thought.

“Ojo argued that his client did not commit the crime and was not at the scene of the incident. He insisted that the deceased, Ann Uzoh, had in two statements she made after the incident and before her death, stated that she got burnt in a generator accident and that the cleric was not responsible for her injuries.

“Ojo said the Investigating Police Officer, IPO, had tendered statements which stated that Ezeugo was not responsible for the burns that led to Uzoh’s death. He alleged that the trial Judge refused to admit in evidence, the statements he said exonerated Ezeugo of the crime.

“The lawyer further contended had those ‘vital exhibits’ been admitted rather than expunged by the trial judge, they would have operated to cast serious doubt on the case of the prosecution. He maintained that Justice Oyewole’s refusal to admit the exhibits in evidence ‘occasioned a great miscarriage of justice’ against his client.”

BREAKING NEWS: SUPREME COURT OKAYS REV. KING TO DIE BY HANGING

The Supreme Court has okayed the convicted General-Overseer of the Christian Praying Assembly, Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, a.k.a Rev. King, to die by hanging.

In a unanimous judgment this afternoon, a seven-man panel of Justices ‎of the apex court led by Justice Walter Onnoghen, upheld the death sentence that was earlier handed to Ezeugo by the Lagos state high court.

Consequently, the court in its lead verdict that was delivered by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, dismissed the appeal the convicted clergy lodged before it.

Justice Ngwuta who noted that “the ‎facts of the case could have been lifted from horror film”, resolved all the 12 issues Ezeugo raised in his appeal against him.

“This appeal has no merit. The judgement of the court of appeal is hereby affirmed. The prison sentence that was earlier handed to the appellant is no longer relevant in view of the death sentence passed on him”, Justice Ngwuta held.

It will be recalled that Ezeugo was convicted and sentenced to death by hanging on January 11, 2007, for the alleged murder of his church member, Ann Uzoh. He was arraigned on September 26, 2006 on a six-count charge of attempted murder and murder.

The charge against him was at the instance of the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

During the trial, the prosecution had argued that the convict poured petrol on the diseased, Uzor and five others. Uzoh died on August 2, 2006, exactly 11 days after the incident.

In her judgment, trial Justice Joseph Oyewole who is now a Justice of the Court of Appeal at Calabar, said there was sufficient evidence linking the accused person to the commission of the crime.

Consequently, Justice Oyewole convicted and sentenced Ezeugo to 20 years imprisonment for the attempted murder and death by hanging for the offence of murder.

Dissatisfied with the judgment, Ezeugo took the case before the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal.

The condemned clergy, in his notice of appeal dated January 16, 2007, prayed the appellate court to set aside the judgment.

Aside 16 grounds of appeal he raised through his lawyer, Mr. Olalekan Ojo, he was subsequently granted leave to argue additional 16 grounds based an amended notice of appeal he filed on June 15, 2008.

Ojo argued that his client did not commit the crime and was not at the scene of the incident.

He insisted that the deceased, Uzoh, had in two statements she made after the incident and before her death, stated that she got burnt in a generator accident and that the cleric was not responsible for her injuries.

Ojo said the Investigating Police Officer, IPO, had tendered statements which stated that Ezeugo was not responsible for the burns that led to Uzoh’s death.

He alleged that the trial Judge refused to admit in evidence, the statements he said exonerated Ezeugo of the crime.

The lawyer further contended had those “vital exhibits” been admitted rather than expunged by the trial judge, they would have operated to cast serious doubt on the case of the prosecution.

He maintained that Justice Oyewole’s refusal to admit the exhibits in evidence “occasioned a great miscarriage of justice” against his client.

Meanwhile, after due consideration of the case, a three-man panel of justices of the appellate court, in a lead judgment that was delivered by Justice Fatimo Akinbami, dismissed Ezeugo’s appeal and upheld the high court verdict.

The other members of the appellate court panel that equally concurred with the lower court’s verdict were Justices Amina Augie and Ibrahim Saulawa.

Determined to save his life, Rev Ezeugo lodged an appeal before the Supreme Court.

His appeal was challenged by the Lagos state government which through its Attorney General, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem and Director of Public Prosecutions, Mrs. Idowu Alakija, urged the apex court to dismiss it and uphold the concurrent verdicts of the two lower courts.

FIFA CONGRESS STARTS TO CHOOSE A NEW PRESIDENT

A FIFA congress to choose a new president for world football’s crisis-hit governing body opened in Zurich on Friday, where major reforms were also to be adopted.

The meeting to replace the disgraced Sepp Blatter began with a video montage that noted FIFA’s need to restore its “credibility” and move past the period of unprecedented scandal that has plagued the organisation in recent months.

Five candidates led by Sheikh Salman Ebrahim Al Khalifa, the head of Asian football, UEFA’s secretary general Gianni Infantino and former FIFA vice-president Prince Ali bin al Hussein lead the presidential contest.

Acting president Issa Hayatou said the congress would be a “watershed moment” for FIFA after the scandal of the past year.

The head of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach addressed the congress on what he termed “an extraordinary day”, which gave FIFA the chance to “turn the page,” following one of the darkest period’s in its 112-year history.

“You will not only elect a new president, but you will also decide on the future of world football,” the IOC leader told FIFA members.

Recalling past corruptions scandals at the IOC, Bach said Olympics’ governing body “knows from our own bitter experience” that solving crises “is not an easy process.”

“This needs to be an ongoing and continuous effort,” the IOC chief told FIFA’s 209 members associations.

“We all here know that football is about scoring goals. Today you are electing your new team leader,” he added.

“I hope with you in the game that follows you will score the winning goals for world football.”

FATHER SELLS HIS SON FOR N250,000

A father, Daniel Barnney, is being held by the Lagos State police for allegedly selling his nine-month-old son Emmanuel to a 43-year-old woman, Mrs. Ekah Richard, for just N250,000.

Barnney, one Pastor Samuel Osavitu and a worker at an orphanage, Alhaji Sunkanmi Adamu, are all being quizzed at the FESTAC Police Station over the matter.

Barnney’s Nigerian wife Ijeoma Ndoku raised the alarm.

She got to know of her Liberian husband’s plan to sell their son and flee to Ghana. The police arrested Barnney at Mile 2 on February 12 and recovered the baby from Mrs. Ekah Richard.

Ijeoma said she and Barnney have been quarrelling because she did not allow him to take the baby to his aunt, who she never saw.

She debunked Barnney’s claims of abandoning the child, accusing him of fleeing with the boy on their way to buy groceries.

“It’s a lie! I didn’t abandon my baby. He said he wanted to hand the baby over to his aunt. I said it was okay since his aunt was now in Nigeria. I said it will give me opportunity to look for a job and support the family because he has not been taking care of us.

“For over three months, he has been saying he does not have money to take care of me and my baby but he usually had money to buy drinks and cigarettes.
He could not even bring out N150 for me to buy pampers for our baby.

Even when I wanted to take the baby to the hospital, I usually went and borrowed money; other times, our neighbours will give me money to cater for the baby.

“He used to get drunk and vomit. When I complained, he would bring out iron rod and hit it on my head. I fell down once, tried to go and open the door, but he dragged me back.

“I didn’t know his plan is to sell our baby. I said I wanted to see his aunt. He claimed if the aunt knows that I am around, she wouldn’t collect the baby. He asked me if I wanted the baby to die, I said no”, she said.

Ijeoma said she learnt of Barnney’s plan to sell their son from his boss.

“She (the boss) told me that Daniel was planning to sell my son. She said that Daniel said after selling the baby, he would leave for Ghana. I didn’t believe her.

“The woman said I should come back around 4pm, so that I would hear the story from some of her assistants. I told Daniel’s friend. He doubted the story too, so he followed me.

“It was in his presence that the woman told us everything. She said she became curious and concerned after she noticed Daniel was always with the baby.

When she asked, Daniel told her that I abandoned the baby and ran away. She asked for my number, so that she could speak to me, but Daniel refused.

That was when she knew Daniel was lying.

“I told her that Daniel told me that the baby was with his aunt. She said that was part of the reason she withheld his salary,” she said.

Ijeoma added that on January 29, Barnney called that he was coming to see his son, adding that when he came, their neighbours were happy and advised her to forgive him.

To effect his plan to take away the baby, she said he tricked her that they were going to buy him things.

She said when she alighted from the motorcycle (Okada) that they took to enter a store, Barnney disappeared with the baby.

Barnney, 32, who admitted to have received N250,000 from Richard through Adamu, said the money was given to him to start a business.

He denied selling the baby, claiming that his wife abandoned the child. He said since he could not cater for the boy alone, he took him to an orphanage.

Mrs. Richard, who claimed that she adopted the child, said she never knew the adoption process was illegal. She said she was advised by the pastor to adopt a child so that God can open her womb.

But Pastor Osavitu, who denied conspiring with others to steal the baby, said he was only trying to help Mrs Richard and safe the child’s life.

He said: “I have known the orphanage guy for almost nine years. He’s a good man. He’s the manager at the orphanage. I used to go to the orphanage to preach there.”

SENATE ORDERS THE ARREST OF FORMER EFCC BOSS IBRAHIM LAMORDE

The Senate has ordered for the immediate arrest of former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Alhaji Ibrahim Lamorde for his refusal to honour the invitation by Senator Samuel Anyanwu-led Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to answer questions bordering on money laundering allegations.

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu while commending the committee for a good job well done, ordered that warrant of arrest be issued on the former EFCC boss.

Anyanwu said Lamorde had earlier written through his Special Assistant particularly on 30th September, 2015 asking for a more convenient time. He said Lamorde might have used the opportunity to sneak out of the country as he has refused to honour their invitation since that time.

“Our investigation shows that Mr Ibrahim Lamorde transferred money which the EFCC recovered in foreign and Local currency from Recovery Accounts to Operations Account from where he diverted the said money.

”I want to say with emphasis that the EFCC under Lamorde traded with recovered funds and colluded with real estate companies to undervalue seized assets before they were sold to their cronies,” Senator Samuel Anyanwu said.

SUNDAY OLISEH RESIGN AS SUPER EAGLES COACH

Sunday Oliseh has quit as Nigeria’s football coach after claiming violations of his contract and receiving too little help from the national federation for next month’s crucial 2017 Africa Cup of Nations clash with Egypt.

Nigeria host seven-time African champions and group leaders Egypt on March 25 in Kaduna before a return fixture days later, with only the overall group winners guaranteed automatic qualification to the 2017 Nations Cup in Gabon.

“Oliseh has resigned as Super Eagles coach after he did not enjoy the right support from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF),” a top official said on Friday.

“He also complained of several breaches to his contract with the NFF,” he said.

Oliseh has complained he is owed four months’ salary and has not received accommodation in the capital of Abuja that he had been promised.

It is also understood that he was unhappy over the dismissal of his personal assistant, former international Tijjani Babangida, and rumours that the NFF approached former Cote d’Ivoire coach Herve Renard, who has since been appointed coach of Morocco.

Former Nigeria skipper Oliseh was appointed as coach in July 2015, replacing sacked Stephen Keshi.

However, the relationship between him and the NFF has soured since Nigeria failed to go past the group stage of the recent African Nations Championship in Rwanda.

Amid speculation over his future, Oliseh took to social media platform YouTube to vent his frustration by attacking his critics who wanted him sacked, but he would later apologise.

Nigerian sports minister Solomon Dalung waded into the crisis when he advised against sacking the coach.

Under Oliseh, the Eagles played 14 matches, losing two.

SUPREME COURT TO GIVE FINAL VERDICT ON REV. KING TODAY

The Supreme Court would today, give the final word whether Rev. Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, alias Reverend King should be hanged for murder or whether he should spend some few years more in jail.

King, General Overseer of the Christian Praying Assembly in Lagos, is challenging the judgment of a Lagos High Court sentencing him to death by hanging.

The apex court presided over by Justice Walter Onoghen adjourned till today to give judgment after listening to arguments from counsel to prosecution and defence in the matter.

Lagos State Attorney general and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem, who appeared before the Supreme Court alongside Mrs. Idowu Alakija, the Director of Public Prosecution and other Senior Counsel in the State, urged the court to dismiss the appeal and uphold the judgment of the lower court.

Ezeugo was arraigned on September 26, 2006 on a six-count charge of attempted murder and murder.

He pleaded not guilty to the allegation but was sentenced to death by the then Justice Joseph Oyewole of Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, on January 11, 2007 for the murder of one of his church members, Ann Uzoh.

Justice Oyewole is now a judge of Appeal Court sitting in the Calabar division.

The Lagos State Government had said that the convict poured petrol on the deceased and five other persons and that Uzoh died on August 2, 2006; 11 days after the act was perpetrated on her.

Ezeugo was convicted and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for the attempted murder and death by hanging for the offence of murder.

Dissatisfied, Ezeugo challenged the verdict before the Court of Appeal in Lagos, but the appeal was thrown out.

“I hereby rule that the prosecution effectively discharged the burden of proof on it. This appeal is devoid of any basis and accordingly fails.

“The judgment of the High Court is hereby affirmed, and the conviction imposed on the appellant, (which is death by hanging) is also affirmed,” Justice Fatimo Akinbami who read the judgement held.

The two other members of the panel of Justices, Amina Augie and Ibrahim Saulawa concurred with the lead judgement.

Again, Ezeugo not being satisfied with the verdict, approached the Supreme Court, and urged that the judgment be upturned.

The apex court has now fixed the final judgment for today.
