Turning Business Disappointment into Appointment By BusinessIQ

“Expectation is my crime,
disappointment is my punishment”—
Ritu Ghatourey
I’ve been a victim of disappointment
in the past. I am not trying to saying
every action I take, these days, lead
to appointment. No, it doesn’t. But I
have learnt how not to dwell on the
disappointment, forgetting it is just
another pothole on my journey to
success. So it is for you. It is not
unusual for you to be angry or
emotionally depressed when your
best staff decided to resign, your
star customer suddenly disappeared,
the bank did not approve the loan,
your potential investors turned
down your proposal, or it rained on
your parade. These are all
disappointments. Though painful, it
is part of human existence and
business as well. You cannot
prevent, but you can successfully
manage it by using the 5 steps
below to creating appointment from
every subsequent disappointment
you will be facing.
Step 1: Just like there are two sides
to a coin, disappointment and
appointment goes hand in hand. You
can’t separate them. In fact, you
have to face more disappointment
for you to get a single appointment.
So, get use to seeing the
appointment behind every
disappointment.
Step 2: It is extremely important
that you learn from your
disappointment. It is okay for you to
feel bad or emotionally depressed,
but you need to learn to analyze
what happened. What went wrong?
How best can you correct what went
wrong? What is your next game
plan? And when are you carrying it
out? Always analyze your
disappointment and you are sure to
learn one or two lessons from it.
Step 3: Put the past behind you very
quickly and move on. When you
have learnt your lesson and you have
decided the next decision to take,
quickly put the past behind you and
focus on what you need to do next.
Don’t sit on the seat of regret for too
long. Don’t feel so very sorry for
yourself that you forget every single
moment counts.
Step 4: From you analysis, change
the method of approach. There is no
particular way to how the cookies
crumble or how the floor is mopped.
So, from your analysis, you have to
reach a conclusion and get ready to
fire back not repeating the same
approach, but changing your game
plan.
Step 5: No retreat, no surrender so
they said. But in business, you can
retreat, but you don’t surrender.
You retreat to analyze your mistakes
and correct them. Then you have to
take massive action to get
measurable result. You need to
double your last effort and the
result, definitely will be just that
amazing appointment you have been
waiting for.
