SENATE ORDERS THE ARREST OF FORMER EFCC BOSS IBRAHIM LAMORDE

The Senate has ordered for the immediate arrest of former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Alhaji Ibrahim Lamorde for his refusal to honour the invitation by Senator Samuel Anyanwu-led Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to answer questions bordering on money laundering allegations.

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu while commending the committee for a good job well done, ordered that warrant of arrest be issued on the former EFCC boss.

Anyanwu said Lamorde had earlier written through his Special Assistant particularly on 30th September, 2015 asking for a more convenient time. He said Lamorde might have used the opportunity to sneak out of the country as he has refused to honour their invitation since that time.

“Our investigation shows that Mr Ibrahim Lamorde transferred money which the EFCC recovered in foreign and Local currency from Recovery Accounts to Operations Account from where he diverted the said money.

”I want to say with emphasis that the EFCC under Lamorde traded with recovered funds and colluded with real estate companies to undervalue seized assets before they were sold to their cronies,” Senator Samuel Anyanwu said.
